Sad duty to report that one of our long time members Tedres [webmasterworld.com] (Ted Resnick) died earlier this month in an auto accident.

Ted was employed at Women.com as head of promotions. A memorial page at women.com [women.com].

Ted had been in the search engine industry for many years starting his first job with search engine Magellan.

He had been a member here on/off since November of 99 - a good guy and a friend. He will be missed.

Ted was also among the most ethical people I ever met, had a great sense of humor and was always up to some sort of mischief. He is one of the few SEOs I ever met who really meant it when he offered to pick up the check at a restaurant! :) I will miss him enormously.

He was also a long-term editor at ODP, where we have a sad tradition of creating memorial categories for editors who die.

Ted's is at In Memorium: Tedres [dmoz.org].

I didn't know...

Ted was also one of NBCi's LiveDirectory Advisory Board, an exclusive twelve-member group. I wonder if NBCi knows? I didn't see anything in the memorial pages.

added:
I do have an email address for the board, I'll email them.

This story on the odp memorial site really got to me:

SFgate.com article here [sfgate.com]

I can't even speak about it because I will rant all day long...

Yes, it seems so senseless. Very sad...

Man,

How does our system let something like this happen?

This saddening news really puts life back in perspective.

I can't help but think the wrong person always seems to survive these accidents.

I didn't know Tedres, but he always made intelligent, quality posts... I'm sure he'll be missed greatly.

A tragic waste of life.
What a great shame to lose a long time and valuable member of this community.
My thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues.
