What is Froogle Listing?

A listing in Froogle™ is a free way to extend your marketing reach to millions of new prospects.

Froogle is an extension of the Google search engine used daily by millions of people around the world to research products before they purchase. Froogle presents an enormous no-cost opportunity to introduce your products to people actively searching for what you sell - prospects you might otherwise spend heavily to reach through traditional advertising.

How do I get my products listed on Froogle?

To ensure that your product catalog is included, a data feed is required. It is a tab-delimited text file containing the URLs of your catalog files and images. This file must be uploaded to the Froogle server and updated at least monthly. The catalog files themselves are separate and reside on your server.

Conditions for Froogle acceptance:

  • Shipping - You must be able to ship your products anywhere within at least one of the following countries:
    • United States
    • United Kingdom
  • Product Pricing and Ordering
    • Products must be available for purchase using a credit card (PayPal and other shopping carts are acceptable)
    • Your ordering process needs to be clearly defined and easily navigable
    • Product pages must list prices in the official currency of one of the above countries
  • Site Functionality
    • Your site must be launched and functioning
    • Product pages must not require user login or registration to view
    • Your site cannot have a robots.txt file that prevents Google from crawling the product images directory on your site
    • Your site must be in the primary language of one of the above countries

How does Froogle compare with other sites?

Froogle is unlike other sites - for what it does, and for what it doesn't do. Froogle provides a lightning quick way to search the largest collection of stores and products on the web.

Froogle does not sell products or promote partner stores within the search results. There's no shopping cart. Froogle provides objective results based on what is most relevant to a searcher's inquiry. Froogle finds the product a searcher is looking for and points them to the store that sells it.

Froogle does not accept payment for inclusion in search results, nor do they offer to place a merchant site higher in the results if they are an advertiser or offer to pay for that placement. Rankings are based solely on relevancy.

How do you submit a data feed?

A Froogle feed, like all shopping search and XML Trusted Feeds, is of no use unless content is associated with and attached to it. The better optimized the content - the better results you'll see in ranking and conversion.

What does WebGenie Froogle Feed Assistant do?

This program automatically creates and uploads the catalog files to your web server and a data feed file to the Froogle server. The catalog files, one for each item that you sell, can be formatted to have links to other pages on your site. The basic requirement that it carries the price of the particular item and a link to buy it are correctly added.

The catalog files and images must be uploaded to your server. The data feed file is to be uploaded to the Froogle server. Both these functions are semi-automatically done via the program.

In order to maintain your listing in Froogle, the data feed file must be uploaded at least once a month. The most frequent upload allowed by Froogle is once daily.

To facilitate this, and to avoid forgetting the periodic upload, the WebGenie Froogle Feed Assistant can be scheduled to run daily at a specified time. Then, you can optionally click the upload button every-time the program window appears or at lesser intervals.

You must schedule the program to run while your computer is likely to be switched on and you are working on it.

If, however, you do not wish to be bothered with the manual uploading, one can choose to register with us to enable the automatic uploading at specified intervals (daily, weekly or monthly).

What will be the shopping cart software?

By default, the WebGenie Shopping Cart is used to enable the online purchase. The CGI for it can reside on your server or on our secure server. If you have not purchased and installed WebGenie Shopping Cart, there are two options:

  • Use a master CGI on WebGenie's server to operate the cart.
  • Let the program create the page containing the specified code to connect to any other shopping cart.

What are the costs?

The program is free to try for 30 days. It will let you test the system by creating one catalog and its associated data feed file for one store in Froogle.

With the registered version ($99) you can create multiple catalogs and data feed files for one or more stores in Froogle. There is no ongoing fee.

If using WebGenie's server to process the online order, you get 30 days' free use of the CGI on our secure server. Usage beyond this period incurs a monthly fee of $14.

Alternatively, you may purchase the WebGenie Shopping Cart Professional ($495), create a CGI with it and install the CGI on your server. There is no ongoing fee with this option.

You can also use a third party shopping cart software.

If using the periodic uploading service from WebGenie, the cost is from $9.95 per month for one store. Click here for more details and to signup.

How do I get started?

  • The first step is to enroll with Froogle for a "Merchant Account". It costs nothing, but may take a few days to get approval.

Once approved, Froogle will send you a username and password to login to your account. In addition, a username and password are allotted to you to upload the data feed. You will require this username and password to let WebGenie Froogle Feed Assistant upload the data feed.

  • After you have received the Froogle login details, the system can be be setup and tested.

Where do I download it from?

You can download the software from here

Do I need any other software?

No other software is required to setup the feed and schedule the periodic uploads. By default, the buy links on your pages will connect to a CGI on our server. If you wish, our Shopping Cart Professional can be used to install the online shopping cart on your server.

If using a third party software/service to implement online shopping, you can edit the template file to insert its code.
